FAQ

What are the open hours for the courts?

Courts open at 8am every day. Courts currently close one hour before sunset, to allow our Maintenance Manager to water the clay.

How do I reserve a court?

We do not ask members to reserve courts online ahead of time — they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please mark your time on the chalkboard and use the pegs on the fence to hang your racquet to indicate you are waiting.

Most importantly, if others are waiting for a court, please finish your game once you have been on for 45 minutes in total (not since others arrived and began waiting). Please observe our court etiquette policies when waiting for and using the courts.

What is the rain policy?

Please make every effort to stop playing when the rain begins. Play must definitely end if steps are making visible footprints on the clay.

Maintenance Manager Yolanda is the authority on whether the courts are playable after rain. Updates are posted on the members forum. It is important to still sweep even when it begins raining.

Can I view court conditions from home?

Yes. Court images are sent to a Google Drive folder every 15 minutes, with time stamps. If you do not currently have access, please reach out to the Tennis Chairs.

Can I bring guests?

Yes, members are allowed to bring guests to play at the club. Guests must be accompanied by a member when playing and must adhere to club rules and policies. Guest passes can be purchased through the Court Reserve portal and are valid for the day of purchase.

What is the dress code?

We recommend wearing appropriate tennis attire and shoes while playing. They need not be white. Avoid wearing street shoes or any footwear that may damage the court surface.

Do you offer tennis lessons?

Yes — for all ages and skill levels. Our experienced coaches provide both private and group lessons. You don’t have to be a club member or own a racket to participate. Learn more about lessons and our pros →

Is there a social aspect to the club?

Absolutely. We offer various social events — round-robin tournaments, fundraisers, and other activities. Regular programs include:

  • Singles Ladder (ongoing)
  • Morning Doubles: show up and throw in your racquet (10am–12pm)
  • Friday Doubles Social Tennis (5pm onwards)

How do I join the Tennis Forum?

The Ward’s Island Tennis Forum is a discussion board popular among members for court updates and event information. Contact the tennis chairs to get added.

Where can I get my racquet strung on the island?

Stringing services are provided by Scott Stein. Cost: $25, or $50 if strings are also required. Scott keeps a record of previous stringing jobs. Often complete next-day. Contact us for Scott’s email →
